Over many years of managing staff,leading volunteers and studying the traits of leaders and how they operate - I came to the conclusion that:
The Maxim - "What Gets Measured Gets Done!" - Is a Management Principle and
The Maxim - "What Gets Recognised Gets Repeated!" - Is a Leadership Principle
In my Leadership and Recognition Workshops I challenge the delegates to look for the "Good that People Do" and "Not the Bad" and then to reward the most excellent person by sending them a letter of commendation at the end of each week. This ensures that we not only live a more positive life but also makes us practice the most neglected management/leadership skill - To Recognise and Reward!
